STAFF PICKS :: AN ENTIRE PECK OF CLASSIC REPRINTS :: MAY 07, 2014

I can’t just recommend one; nor can I just recommend two:
First off we have The Complete Cul De Sac by Richard Thompson. this big beautiful slip cased edition collects every single daily and Sunday strip from what may very well be the single best comic strip since Calvin and Hobbes. Sadly, due to Mr. Thompson’s struggles with Parkinson’s there will never be any new Cul De Sac strips; but what remains is a testament to the creators talent and wit. These strips are a joy to look at and they are more often than not laugh out loud funny. I already miss Alice and Dill.

Second and thirdly, we have from Fantagraphics, another volume of the COMPLETE PEANUTS this hardcover VOL 21 collects all the strips from 1991-1992. Only three more volumes to go. The cover features my second most favorite Schulz creation Marcie (Rerun Van Pelt is of course Number 1)
Or go back to the beginning and try the new soft cover edition of the COMPLETE PEANUTS VOL 01 from 1950-1952. It is magic to watch Charles Schulz’s fledgling strip transform day by day into the iconic gem we still know and love today.

Lastly, from Dark Horse, we have MURDER MYSTERIES HC and this second edition is only $19.99. P.Craig Russell beautifully adapts Neil Gaiman’s well known short story. This is one of Gaiman’s best and Mr. Russell does the story right. Visions of the Silver City alone are worth the price of admission. Get reading!!!!
