STAFF PICKS :: MULTIVERSITY THUNDERWORLD #1 :: DECEMBER 17, 2014

staff_picksjustin_staff_picksJUSTINā€™S PICK :: MULTIVERSITY THUNDERWORLD #1: I am not a Grant Morrison fanatic, but Iā€™m not repelled by his work, either. I think heā€™s a very good writer, mostly in that he has a broad and elastic style that can suit a plethora of subject matter. Multiversity has been proof positive of that. But I have anticipated none of the offerings in this mind-bending miniseries more than Thunderworld. Cam Stewart is an inspired choice to delineate the Marvel Family, and Morrison has a pretty sterling track record of modernizing the tropes of yesteryear. Holy moly!Ā

STAFF PICKS :: ZENITH PHASE ONE :: NOVEMBER 12, 2014

November 11, 2014 By: Andy Mansell Category: DISCUSS, Staff Picks

staff_picks andy_staff_picksANDY’S PICK :: ZENITH PHASE ONE:Ā Before there was Animal Man, Doom Patrol, New X-Men, The Invisibles, Seven Soldiers of Victory, Batman & Son, Final Crisis, and Multiverse, there was Zenith. Grant Morrison along with designer Brendan McCarthy and artist Steve Yeowell created the first selfish Gen-X Superhero as rock star. Originally published in England in 2000 AD, between 1987 to 1992, ZENITH has not been reprinted for decades and that huge gaping absence in the era of classic reprints ends today. Back in the day, I was one of the few, lucky few in the colonies to read it and if memory serves, it is a marvelous read. Don’t miss it.

STAFF PICKS :: MULTIVERISTY #1 :: AUGUST 20, 2014

August 18, 2014 By: Rico Renzi Category: DISCUSS, Staff Picks

staff_picks rico_staff_picksRICO’S PICK :: MULTIVERISTY #1:Ā DC Comics is giving Grant MorrisonĀ the keys to 51 alternate Earths in the DC U. 51 different universes (The Multiverse), each with their own particular spin on the superheroes we know and love.Ā The concept of the DC Multiverse isnā€™t a new one, itā€™s been around since the 1960s but Grant Morrison is attempting to flesh it all out in this new series. Sounds pretty interesting. I really like this variant cover by Morrison himself.

Chris Burnham’s cover is pretty great too.

STAFF PICKS :: 2012 FAVORITES :: ANDY MANSELL

December 26, 2012 By: Andy Mansell Category: DISCUSS, Staff Picks

ANDY’S FAVORITES OF 2012:
Favorite Superhero Book of 2012:Ā Flex Mentallo: Man of Muscle Mystery: Sure it is a reprint, but it is book that showcases Grant Morrison at his Doom Patrol era weirdness and the great Frank Quitely being…well, the great Frank Quitely.Ā The awesome title of the book and that marvelous cover by Quitely alone are worth the price of admission!Ā Ā And here’s the best part. Ā This HARD-COVER Ā that collects the infamous 4 part mini-series is only $24.00!!!! Ā Earlier this year those two dozen hard-earned dollars would not have been enough scratch to purchase any one single issue of the original series. And did I mention Frank Quitely–well shame on me, I should have done that earlier.
