HEROESCON :: Schedule Updates!

March 27, 2008 By: Dustin Harbin Category: HeroesCon, HeroesCon News, Schedule

As promised, this year’s HeroesCon Event Schedule is going to be filled to overflowing by the time of the convention, with each day crammed with can’t-miss panels. Why, you ask? When you factor in the INCREDIBLE number of guests we’ve got already, not to mention exhibitors, dealers, and publishers from all over the country whose booths you’ll be browsing, plus an overstuffed schedule, how can you help but buy a 3-day pass? There’s no way you can get all the HeroesCon you need in just one day. Clever, no?

On to this week’s schedule additions: Tom Spurgeon of the excellent Comics Reporter site is attending his first HeroesCon this year, and he’s informed me that he’ll run as many panels as I’ll let him, despite my warnings that this number will be a high one. He’s got some primo ideas, too, so I will definitely be working him to the bone. New to the schedule this week:

THE CREATIVE HOUSEHOLD panel featuring Matt Fraction and Kelly Sue DeConnick, Stuart and Kathryn Immonen, and Evan Dorkin and Sarah Dyer.

COVERING COMICS: Criticism, Reportage, and Gossip, featuring Tom Spurgeon, Matt Brady, Dan Nadel, Johanna Draper-Carlson, and Heidi MacDonald.

CONVERSATIONS: Jaime Hernandez & Evan Dorkin, interviewed by Tom Spurgeon.

RELIGION & PHILOSOPHY IN COMICS, featuring Sammy Harkham, Kevin Huizenga, and Tom Spurgeon.

You can find full descriptions of each of these panels, plus the rest of the 2008 Event Schedule, right here! This is just the tip of the iceberg, too–as I type, I’m looking at a huge list of prospective panels I’m working my way through.

HEROESCON | Nick Gurewitch Interview Listed In Schedule!

March 07, 2008 By: Dustin Harbin Category: HeroesCon, HeroesCon News, Indie Island, Schedule

We’re putting more effort into building an amazing schedule this year than ever before–by the time of the show, there are going to be so many must-see events that the schedule will end up being as much of an attraction as the guests and exhibitors!

To that end: just added to our 2008 Event Schedule is “The Nicholas Gurewitch Fellowship“, an interview with the crazy-famous creator of The Perry Bible Fellowship. I had a chance to hang out with Nick a little bit at last year’s SPX, and he was awesome, so put together with my own awesomeness, this promises to be an AWESOME(squared) interview. Oh, I forgot to mention that I’d be doing the interviewing–fortunately, this will be one of the only events that I’m running, leaving the bulk of any thinking and erudition to people much more qualified.

The interview is scheduled for 2.00 pm on Saturday, June 21, but NOTE! all times and locations are subject to change with nearly no notice. You can check out the current up-to-date schedule right here!

HEROESCON :: Schedule Addition!

February 19, 2008 By: Dustin Harbin Category: HeroesCon, HeroesCon News, Schedule

Just added to our HeroesCon 2008 Event Schedule is the Avengers Assembled! panel. Assembled! is the Van Plexico-edited book examing the history and mythos of the Avengers. Rare for a non-Marvel book, the book has received high accolades from Avengers alums including inker Bob Almond and editor Tom Brevoort–it doesn’t hurt that all proceeds from the sale of the book go to the Hero Initiative, the charity devoted to supporting aging comics professionals.

The panel will feature a number of celebrity guests (to be announced) and their discussion of the book, the Avengers themselves, and more. Plus it will culminate in the live presentation of the books’ proceeds to date to the Hero Initiative, which is sure to be exciting. For more info check our Schedule page! Also be sure to check out Van’s Avengers fan site, and of course the Hero Initiative!

HEROESCON :: Schedule Additions A-Go-Go!

February 06, 2008 By: Dustin Harbin Category: HeroesCon, HeroesCon News, Schedule

Very exciting! Just up on our Event Schedule page, the first of numerous planned additions to our HeroesCon 08 schedule! This may be very exciting to you, but it’s got me ready to pee my pants with excitement–this is a really great side-effect of being so far ahead of the game this year (the schedule, not the peeing). Being able to list and talk about our schedule all year means a higher quality of panel and I hope much higher attendance for each panel, which is just more fun for everybody.

But enough about how excited I am–two big announcements today, first that once again this year we’re partnering with the Savannah College of Art and Design‘s Sequential Art department for a series of workshops free to HeroesCon attendees! There will be two each day, approximately two hours each, each focusing on a different facet of sequential art. These workshops were a big hit last year, and it looks like this year will be even bigger! More information to be announced on specific workshops.

Also new today is the addition of “Drawing Green Lantern Then & Now: A Back Issue Live Pro2Pro Interview“; as it says, this is a three-way interview between past and present Green Lantern artists including Alex Saviuk, Joe Staton, and Ethan Van Sciver, moderated by Back Issue editor Michael Eury. Even cooler is that this interview will run in the magazine in their November issue!

Stay tuned for more updates on the schedule–we’re putting together some pretty exciting panels this week, which we’ll be announcing as soon as we have all the details squared away!
