HEROESCON 09 :: Well, It Had To Happen–
For the first time in nearly 20 years? I’m not even sure–probably back to the 80’s, and definitely before I started working here in 1996. Anyway, what I’m talking about is HeroesCon ticket prices, which for our 2009 show have gone up.
HeroesCon 09 ticket prices will be $15 a day, or $30 for a 3-day pass. Although, to ease the blow for our longtime patrons, we’re offering an advance 3-day pass price of $25 for all persons who have paid by December 31st of this year. So if you buy early, your price only goes up by $5.
Not to sing the blues after a hugely successful show which people are still talking about, but you’d be surprised at how little money we actually make organizing the convention. Besides the incredible cost of just renting the hall for a few days, there are a million other costs involved, from tables and booths to hotel rooms to advertising, printing, and everything else. Part of what makes our show so great is that Shelton and the rest of us throw ourselves into it year-round, not only our backs (and in my case, carpal tunnels), but wallets as well.
2009 is already set to be a giant year–sure, we say that every year. But every year it’s true–our convention has grown by leaps and bounds over the last five years. And with Brian Michael Bendis and Jeff Smith already on the list for next year (you may not have heard this if you weren’t at this year’s HeroesCon, but I’ll “officially” announce it pretty soon) among a bunch of other big names, 2009 will be one of the biggest comics events on the East Coast next year. We feel confident that you guys will all come with us on this one, and help us pay some bills and (maybe) even have some profit left over afterward! That’s what business is all about, after all, although it’s good to have a great time at your business, too!

I can’t see anyone having a problem with a $5 increase for the best show in America, especially considering the huge ticket prices at other shows like Wizard and Comic Con. Even Motor City is now charging $20 for a single day. $25-$30 is still a bargain for this great show.
What amazes me is how long the ticket prices “haven’t” gone up at Heroescon.
Even with the increase it’s still a bargain and well worth the added expense.

I haven’t collected comics for ten years but I still look forward to Heroescon each year, mainly for the various panels. The new price is still a tremendous bargain for a show of this scale with the amount of talent that you guys bring in. I’m also sure you have to pay out a lot of money well in advance and don’t begin to recoup the costs until the show actually occurs. Thanks to everyone involved for twenty six years of awesome memories. I’m looking forward to many more good shows in the future.
Ten dollars for a three day pass is not a lot of money but Heroes Con is definally not as big as Chicago Con. I would be worried that this would drive away locals from just stopping in. Also the small press, booths and exhibitor tables are going up. That is going to keep more people away. I hope all goes well.
Good grief … $300 for a small press table?! So in two years the table prices have gone from $100 to $300. Better hope you don’t get situated too close to the booming loud wall of noise emanating from the next-door car show. YEESH!
my first con and by far it was well worth the money. 30 for a 3 day pass is nothing for the experiences, and stories that I had from this con. all of the people that were there!! I had a great time. I will defintitely be back next year!!
