SHAWN’S FAVORITES OF 2010 :: REPRINT TP/HC
As we say hello to 2011 I am looking back on 2010. This is the first of four posts listing my top 10 favorite comics of 2010. Allow me to clarify things a bit. My top 10 lists are highly subjective and so instead of calling them the best I decided to call them my favorites. Plus, I feel like I haven’t read a lot of the books that would be considered the best of 2010 (like Wilson, X’ed Out and Market Day). I kept my list to books that I bought and I kept the list true to my taste. This category is for my favorite trades or hardcovers that collected previously released material. I included Adam Hughes‘s art book in this category because it does include previously published work and because the Original Content TP/HC category was overflowing with contestants. Each category is ranked in order from most-favorite to least-most-favorite. I really want to hear what your favorites are so please let me know in the comments section!
1 ) Wednesday Comics HC
2 ) Beasts of Burden HC
3 ) Batwoman Elegy HC
4 ) Muppet Show On the Road TP
5 ) Mouse Guard Legends of the Guard HC
6 ) Simon and Kirby Superheroes HC
7 ) Cover Run The DC Comics Art of Adam Hughes HC
8 ) Cinderella From Fabletown with Love TP
9 ) John Stanley Library Melvin Monster HC vol 2
10 ) Toy Story TP vol 1 Return of Buzz Lightyear

I completely agree with the Best vs. Fave difference. I know I don’t read enough to feel I can make that type of call. I own at least one on your list… want another… and just might order a third.
I haven’t actually looked at the Wednesday Comics hardcover but I bought (but did not read) all the newspaper versions. Did it work better or worse in the book format?
I’d put Flourescent Black HC by Nathan Fox on that list. The story was originally printed over 2 issues of Heavy Metal Magazine. Still a few left here (so they say):

Rich- I really liked the newspaper format and thought it was a cool concept. But I think I liked the hardcover a little better. I love oversized hardcovers and I felt like some of the stories were easier to read.
I have and read all the Wednesday Comics newsprint editions, and I still want that hardcover. The loss in size from the newsprint to the HC isn’t much, and it’s greatly outweighed by the improvements in color quality and clarity/legibility. The newsprint was/is a novel concept, but the HC is probably the more attractive package.
I really, really enjoyed Vanessa Davis’ hardcover autobio collection “Make Me a Woman”. Several of the stories included had appeared online but, golly, her lovely watercoloring really shone out when printed up.
I also dug the first volume of the Ted Mckeever library devoted to Transit. Despite all my grubbing around in back issues over the years I never had found all the original issues. Nice to have them all together in a nice collection.
I have and read all the Wed Comics newsprint editions AND I had the HC, but I was working in Barry O’s vacation house here before they arrived for Christmas break, saw all the bookshelves with boring books on them, and left my copy of Wed Comics there for Mr. Pres to enjoy!!! I don’t know if he did, but if he just looked at them and smiled, that would make my day!
I racked my brain trying to decide what to leave, because I wanted to leave the best, and I think Wed Comics HC was IT! I left that, and the HC Wonderful Wizard of OZ just in case the girls wanted something to read. I WOULD have left Richard Starks Parker’s The Hunter and The Outfit, but I wanted to make sure everything I left was family friendly.
Just HAD to let you know that!
Rusty – You are too funny! Wednesday Comics and Wonderful Wizard of Oz are excellent books. I hope that they read them! Thanks for all the comments!
Henry – I have heard great things about “Make Me a Woman.” I really need to read that one of these days.
