JASON’S PICK :: SHIELD BY STERANKO: COMPLETE COLLECTION: Steranko. The man is a legend, belonging to that great pantheon of artists – such as Kirby and Ditko – where one name is all you need for anyone to know exactly who you’re talking about. His marriage of visual storytelling and pop art sensibilities changed the way many people looked at comics. His rendition of Army-sergeant-turned-secret-agent Nick Fury and spy organization SHIELD in the Silver Age has influenced the look and attitude of those characters ever since, and now Marvel is collecting Steranko’s run in one volume. I’m excited to revisit the modern origins of Fury, SHIELD, Hydra, Scorpio, Baron Strucker, and more – not to mention being dazzled by some amazing, amazing art from….Steranko. (Need I say more?)
