HEROES EXCLUSIVE :: DARK KNIGHT III VARIANT BY BRIAN STELFREEZE
When we thought about doing a Dark Knight III store variant we asked our pal Brian Stelfreeze because we knew he would do an amazing job. We had no idea just how beautiful it would be though! Brian has pitted Frank Miller’s Carrie Kelly Robin against Superman, it’s a beautiful composition and it’s available in both color and black white. Pre-orders are open now! The books will start shipping at the end of November right after our in-store signing with Brian! You read that right! Brian will be at Heroes Aren’t Hard To Find on November 28th!

HEATHER’S PICK :: ARKHAM MANOR #1: Maybe it’s Halloween approaching that has me in the mood to read some creepy Batman comics or maybe’s the pairing of Gerry Duggan and Shawn Crystal on a new (no prior history needed) Batman title. Either way, Arkham Manor #1 is on this week’s pull list for me. In events currently unknown to me, but apparently explained in the first few pages, Arkham Asylum has been destroyed and the inmates, Dr. Arkham and his orderlies have moved to Wayne Manor while a new facility is being build.
RICO’S PICK :: BATMAN ’66 #10: In comics there are hidden gems. Short stories that generations of artists seek out for inspiration. Inside Batman ’66 #10 is one of these stories. Together, David Williams and Kelsey Shannon have crafted some of the most beautiful art you’ll ever see. Here’s a small tease, pick up the issue to see it in all it’s glory.
JUSTIN’S PICK :: BATMAN BLACK & WHITE #1: In the wake of DC’s massive roll-out of Forever Evil and Villains Month, it might be easy to overlook a black and white anthology, even if it does feature one of the greatest comic book icons of all-time. Batman as a character tends to attract comics’ top talent, and in that interest, DC has revived the Black & White series. Boasting a stunning cover by Marc Silvestri, this issue is a cornucopia of amazing art and writing, from Chip Kidd and Michael Cho‘s wonderful team-up tale to a Harley Quinn/Poison Ivy yarn by dream team Maris Wicks and Joe Quinones. Bat-luminary Neal Adams flies solo, John Arcudi pairs nicely with Sean Murphy, and Howard Mackie and Chris Samnee round out this outstanding issue with a truly grisly character study of one of the Caped Crusader’s most intriguing villains. In the sound and fury of all these .1 issues, take a little quiet time with this gem, and revel in the art form we all love and appreciate.
ANDY’S PICK :: TALES OF BATMAN: ARCHIE GOODWIN HARDCOVER: You’re probably familiar with the award winning Batman/Manhunter story serialized in Detective Comics 437-443 from 1974 written by Archie Goodwin and illustrated by then newcomer Walt Simonson. It is justifiably famous and considered a classic. Now DC is offering a very affordable (40 bucks for almost 500 pages!) collection of Archie Goodwin penned Batman tales that includes the complete Manhunter saga along with the equally famous Batman: Night Cries GN with gorgeous art by Scott Hampton, Detective Annual #3 with art by Dan Jurgens, 2 short stories from Batman in Black and White with art by Jose Munoz and Gary Gianni and Siege–the story Goodwin left unfinished at the time of his death (and completed by James Robinson) with art by Marshall Rogers from Legends of the Dark Knight #132-136. Goodwin was one of the best writers from the pre- British Invasion mainstream. This is an ideal showcase of Goodwin’s formidable talents.

JASON’S PICK :: BATMAN #12: Scott Snyder started writing Detective Comics when it was Dick Grayson under Batman’s cowl (which he discussed in depth at this year’s HeroesCon!), but he didn’t miss a beat with Bruce Wayne’s return and the jump to writing Batman with the launch of DC’s “New 52.” This issue wraps up Snyder’s game-changing “Court of Owls” storyline/crossover and sets the stage for the coming year of stories. With the Joker’s return in the “Death of the Family” storyline coming soon, it’ll be exciting to see what kind of hints and teases Snyder throws at us in this issue.
