HEROESCON 2012 LOVE AND ROCKETS SHIRTS AVAILABLE FOR PRE-ORDER!

July 19, 2012 By: Rico Renzi Category: Heroes Aren't Hard To Find, HeroesCon, HeroesCon News, NEWS, Special Offers

If you attended HeroesCon last month you know it was both the 30th Anniversary of our show and Love and Rockets by Los Bros Hernandez. You also know that Jaime Hernandez was kind enough to provide art for our shirts and program covers to commemorate this special event! These shirts were so popular that  they sold out at the show but Jaime has granted us permission to go back to press on these for those that missed out and for anyone that was unable to attend the show but would like to have one! The shirts will be available for pre-order on our site for a limited time. We only printed the pink and gray shirts for the show but we are going to make teal shirts available for pre-order too. We’ll keep this up for about a month before we go to press so order your today! Place your order here!

HEROESCON 2012 :: I’d like to Thank the Academy…

July 02, 2012 By: Andy Mansell Category: HeroesCon, HeroesCon News, Interviews, Schedule

but before I do, I really need to say something and then thank some folks individually.
First of all– we did it.  70 panels!! Some scoffed, some laughed, some pitied, some checked to see if my medication was current–some did all four but I can confidently say that we offered something for everyone.–and our moderators, panelists, volunteers and audience members all delivered! My thanks in no particular order:
  • To Laura Martin and Val Staples for taking a techno-disaster and turning the Coloring Panel into a fascinating hour and a half for all the attendees who stuck it out!
  • Special thanks must go out to Becky Cloonan, Francesco Francavilla, Roger Langridge, Scott Snyder, Steve Saffel and Mike Mignola for each agreeing to appear on so many panels.  Thank you all for giving so selflessly of your time!
  • To my all-star moderators– DapperDoug(the M is silent)Merkle, SNAPS!, Dustin Harbin, our Mod RookiesSeth Peagler & Heather Peagler from Exile on Plain Street and Not so DapperJason (Stone Ground) Wheatley,  and of course our out of town internet ringers–Mike Eury (Back Issue), Jimmy Aquino (Comic News Insider), Chad Bowers (Awesome Hospital), Tim Callahan (Genius Boy Firemelon), Cap Blackard (Consequence of Sound), B. Clay MooreHeidi MacDonald from The Beat and Johanna Draper Carlson from Comics Worth Reading.

Chris Pitzer, Pants, & Scott C.

  • To all the concerned innocent by-standers and convention-goers who offered assistance because they were convinced I was having some kind of psychotic episode.  (Typical weekend joke: How can you locate Andy on the Con floor?  Just find the area directly below the circling vultures)
  • To my brain trust of Craig Fisher, Chris Schweizer, Mike Kobre and Steve Saffel and that intense hour that was the Comics Canon Panel.  Who’d of thought a hoard of agitated librarians would make such a rabble-rousing lynch-mob/panel audience.  We must do that again next year!!
  • To Jaime Hernandez for providing two of the best hours I’ve ever spent discussing comics. The man is as eloquent and entertaining as he is a great artist.  I am certain we could have stayed and listened to him of another two hours at least.
  • To Ben Towles and Craig Fisher the brains behind the brilliant 1982 mega-panel.  Every year they impress.  And thanks for letting me prattle on about Master of Kung Fu.  what a comic! what a panel! what complimenting!
  • To Jere Thomas and his WTVI posse for helping to make this special weekend even more special.  Sorry I was unable to make our post-con interview– the spirit was willing but the flesh (my tendon in particular) was weak.
  • To  Michaele Autry and Trey Alexander for organizing an art auction for the ages that left us all gasping and spending!  I still say that Frankenstein water color by Bill Sienkiewicz was the best piece!
  • To the entire Heroes staff and volunteers (and especially Shelley (Conun) Drum!!) for keeping the Stan Lee situation under control.  Truly you all showed Grace under Pressure.  This all culminated in our great Stan Lee Panel Row Shuffling Incident (as it would come to be called) that you had to see to believe.

The Unflappable ™ Adam Daughhetee

But most of all… I must thank THE PANEL DREAM TEAM: (Valiant) Val Staples!, Kate (Indivisible) Nation, Matt Tyree, Lauren Dillard, Pants, Emily Joyner and the Unflappable ™ Adam Daughhetee, Shawn Daughhetee,  Devin Bannen and that Ted Tarver person.
You made everything work.  I can’t thank you enough.
And thank you all for laughing at the same 10 jokes over and over and over–next year– 10 all new jokes, I promise!
And our utility infielder Professor John Larison of SCAD take a bow!
And of course-
Rico Renzi, Karla Marsh and Shelton Drum for having faith that we could tame that 70 panel gorilla.  Rico your leadership skills are amazing.  And Shelton— here’s to 30 more!  I can hardly wait!

HEROESCON 2012 :: THANK YOU!!

June 27, 2012 By: Rico Renzi Category: HeroesCon, HeroesCon News

Wow! HeroesCon 2012 is officially in the books. Aside from a few things in our warehouse that need to be shipped back to creators that attended the show, there are few signs left of the amazing weekend we just shared with everyone who attended our 30th Anniversary show. We’d like to say thank you to all of the guests of the show, all the talented folks promoting new projects in Artists Alley, every fan that attended, the well-stocked exhibitors, all the selfless volunteers, and our amazing staff for making last weekend’s show what it was. If you were here you know it was really something special. If you weren’t here we’ll see you in 2013, June 7-9, start planning! We were truly overwhelmed by the outpouring of love we witnessed at HeroesCon this year. The love for comics and art and for the people that make them was astounding. We’ll see you all next year, same deal as always, no movie companies, no video game companies, just comic books and the people that create and love them.

HEROESCON GUEST LIST UPDATE :: MIKE ZECK! JASON PEARSON! NICK CARDY! STEVE EPTING! & MORE!

June 13, 2012 By: Seth Peagler Category: Guest List, HeroesCon, HeroesCon News

Even though next week is HeroesCon, we’ve still got some big names to announce. Don’t forget, it’s not too late to pick up an advanced 3 day pass.  Just head over HERE and you’ll be on your way to our 30th Anniversary!

First up is artist Mike Zeck! Mike was with us way back at the first HeroesCon, and it’s been decades since he made any convention appearances, so we’re really excited to have him back this year.  Zeck’s influence is wide and varied, and most of you will remember him from acclaimed runs on books like Captain America, Secret Wars, Master of Kung Fu, and Punisher, among many others. He’s one of the greats, don’t miss this rare opportunity to meet him!

We’re also happy to welcome Jason Pearson back to HeroesCon.  Jason’s been a longtime guest of the show over the years, and you’ll know him for his work on Body Bags, Deadpool: Wade Wilson’s War, countless covers for titles like New Mutants, Deadpool, and Punisher, and more.

Artist Steve Epting is probably best known for his work on Captain America and the introduction of the Winter Soldier, but he also had nice runs on titles like Avengers, X-factor, and Marvels Project.  Most recently, he’s worked on Fantastic Four and FF.

The legendary Nick Cardy is also returning to HeroesCon this year!  Nick’s incredible Golden and Silver Age work on titles like Teen Titans, National Comics, Aquaman, Showcase, Bat Lash, and House of Mystery helped define what comics art could be.  He is truly a living legend, and someone who has influenced just about every comic creator and reader over the years.

Scott Hampton is another old friend of HeroesCon, and we’re happy to have him back once again.  In fact, Scott has appeared at every single HeroesCon to date!  Scott’s beautiful art has been seen just about everywhere, but you’ll probably know him for work on books like Hellboy: The Sleeping and the Dead, Rocketeer Adventures, Simon Dark, Silverheels, and Batman: Gotham County Line.

Joseph Michael Linsner is also returning to HeroesCon this year!  Linsner is known for his painterly art on titles like Dawn, Wolverine and Black Cat: Claws, Killraven, and covers for titles like Conan and Red Sonja.

J. David Spurlock is an award winning writer and editor of books like Wally’s World: Life and Death of Wally Wood, Joe Kubert: Draw From Life, Wally Wood’s Strange Worlds of Science Fiction, and The Complete Johnny Comet.

Bill Neville is an artist who has worked on diverse books like Explorers, Tick: Karma TornadoDisney Adventures and Big Bang Comics.

Artist Al Bigley’s work has been seen in books like Sonic the Hedgehog, Archie and Friends, Geminar, Power Rangers and more.

Not all creators will appear every day of the show, we leave that choice up to them. If you guys are kind and treat them well they are more likely to stay for the entire weekend though! See you all soon!
