May 20, 2020 By: Karla Southern Category: Feast Your Eyes, Heroes Aren't Hard To Find, Looking Ahead, NEWS, Now Read This!, Spotlight on New Releases, This Just In, Uncategorized

NEW COMICS ARE IN-STORE TODAY!

Heroes received the first shipment of NEW COMICS since March 25 today, Wednesday, May 20.

With careful consideration for the continued safety of our customers, as well as our staff, we will be open to the public on Wednesday, May 20 from 1pm-9pm with the following guidelines:

  • We will limit the number of people allowed in the store to NO MORE THAN 3 people at a time.
Until further notice we are limiting access inside the store. We will provide access to NEW product on racks located just inside the front door and the counter, but we will discourage browsing the racks until further notice. If you would like us to check the rack for a previous issue or trade, we are happy to do that for you! We do this to limit your exposure as well as our own during this opening period.

  • We ask that customers limit their time in our store for now.
There will be plenty of time for browsing and visiting with one another once restrictions have been lifted and circumstances have improved. For now, in an effort to prevent customer wait-times and attend to as many customers as possible in a timely manner, we ask that you make your visit as brief as possible.

  • Everyone (including staff) will be required to wear a mask while shopping or working inside of our store.
If you do not have a mask, one can be provided to you.

(We understand that some people do not want to wear a mask and, while we understand that is your personal preference, you will not be permitted in our store without a mask. We appreciate your patience, understanding and consideration for everyone’s safety at this time. If you do not want to wear a mask, or if you would prefer not to come inside the store until circumstances have improved, we are happy to arrange shipping for books.)

  • We request that all customers utilize the provided hand sanitizer upon entering the store.

  • Observe social distancing inside the store.
Please be courteous to your fellow customers and allow for at least six feet of distance between yourself and others. We’re all in this together and showing each other respect will go a long way!!

  • During this time we ask customers to be mindful of how much they handle books and other product.
While we will be sanitizing all surfaces and high-contact areas as frequently as possible, we cannot sanitize comic books without causing damage. We ask that customers please be mindful of items as they handle them, and wash their hands or use hand sanitizer after contact.

  • We will be sanitizing and washing our hands after every transaction and as often as possible.
If at all possible, we would prefer that customers pay with a credit or debit card at this time. We will still accept cash transactions, but cards are easier for everyone to sanitize at this time. If we do have a cash transaction we will be washing our hands thoroughly afterwards.

  • We ask anyone who feels unwell to please stay at home (this includes our staff).

  • We have installed a new Point-Of-Sale system. (Thanks Elias!)
Check-out may take a little longer as we acclimate to this new system, and we appreciate your patience! Once we have the hang of things, it should be easier to update your reserve list and keep track of what we have in stock! We also have the ability to invoices Reserve Customers who would like to pay for their books in advance and either pick up curb-side or have their subscription shipped (shipping fees will apply).

  • Our hours may be different until further notice.
Until things are TRULY BACK TO NORMAL, our store hours may be affected.
We will be open to the public TODAY, WEDNESDAY, MAY 20 from 1pm-9pm.
Our hours going forward will be as follows until further notice:

ReOpening-Plans

When will Heroes
Re-Open?

That is an EXCELLENT question and one that we are not entering into without careful consideration for the continued safety of our customers, as well as our staff.

The Stay-At-Home order for the state of North Carolina ends today (Friday, May 8), HOWEVER, Heroes will NOT be opening to the public at this time.

When we do open, it will be with limited capacity and additional guidelines.

We can still ship items to you at this time. You can request items and arrange shipping with an email to [email protected]

We expect our first shipment of NEW product to be available for sale on Wednesday, May 20.

When we DO open to the public, we will operate with the following restrictions in place until the state of North Carolina has cleared all three Phases for reopening, per the State Government guidelines:

  • We will limit the number of people in the store to 3-5 people at a time.

This sobering piece was created by our dear friend, formidable artist, and long-time HeroesCon supporter, Patrick Dean. It illustrates the importance of placing health and safety above commerce. We understand the need and desire for a return of commerce, and we have felt the financial impact of these difficult times as much as anyone. That being said, we feel an incredible responsibility to act in the best interest of EVERYONE, not only the healthy and the strong. These times won’t be safe for ANYONE until they’re safe for EVERYONE, and we need to work together to find a balance until the world can finally breathe again.

  8. Keep your work area well sanitized.

HEROES CONVENTION UPDATE 4/24/2020 :: LOOKING FORWARD TO 2021

April 24, 2020 By: Karla Southern Category: EVENTS, Exhibitors, Feast Your Eyes, Guest List, Heroes Aren't Hard To Find, HeroesCon, HeroesCon News, Indie Island, Looking Ahead, NEWS, Now Read This!, This Just In

HC2020-UPDATE

To Our Treasured Attendees, Artists, Guests and Members of the Heroes Convention Family,

As of Thursday, April 23, 2020, the State of North Carolina has extended the “Stay-At-Home” order effective until Friday, May 8, 2020.

Guidelines for the gradual reopening of our State have been laid out in three phases, which at this time suggest that any mass gathering of more than 10,000 would be incredibly unlikely by June of 2020.

In light of these developments and the current unprecedented and unpredictable nature of the 2019 Coronavirus (COVID-19) Pandemic, and with the best interest of everyone’s health and financial wellbeing in mind, we have made the difficult decision to bypass a 2020 Heroes Convention in favor of fast-forwarding our focus to our 39th Anniversary show to be held June 18-20, 2021.

This decision is not made lightly, and is made with the careful consideration for everyone’s safety at heart.

It would be reckless and irresponsible of us to expect our attendees, vendors, legendary creators, and our valued supporters to put themselves at risk by traveling at this time. It would also be irresponsible of us to presume that our vendors and artists would see positive sales during this time of economic uncertainty. We are hopeful that by giving as much notice as possible, our attendees and artists may be able to avoid costly airline reservations and may be able to alter any current travel arrangements without penalty.

Out of respect for an already crowded and uncertain convention schedule going into late 2020, we have decided to shift our focus forward to our June 2021 Heroes Convention versus attempting to reschedule for later this year.

Heroes Aren’t Hard to Find and the Heroes Convention are, at their core, a small business with a big heart, operating year-round from our brick-and-mortar comic-book store in Charlotte, NC. Our store, as well as the Heroes Convention, are managed by a team of four full-time employees, six part-time employees, and a small group of dedicated volunteers. We keep our store and convention operations running simultaneously during the months leading up to our convention, as well as during the event itself.

Normally, at this time of the year, we would be deep into HeroesCon preparation with most of our daily finances from the store being dedicated to producing the best Heroes Convention possible.

Since Monday, March 23 (which also happens to be Shelton’s birthday), our store has been closed to the public. We are currently maintaining and surviving based solely on telephone and online sales from our loyal customer base. While we are endlessly appreciative of these sales, this change in our daily operation has affected not only our finances but the time which would otherwise be dedicated to organizing the Heroes Convention. Even if the country were able to open without guidelines and restrictions in the next week, the time left for us to produce a Heroes Convention on par with our standards would be insufficient.

We are not receiving a refund from the Charlotte Convention Center, we are transferring our deposits from 2020 toward a 2021 show. Putting on a show the size and scope of the Heroes Convention is extremely expensive. All the money we have received from the purchase of 3-Day Advance Tickets, Artist Alley Tables and Exhibitor Booths is currently tied up in the cost of renting the Charlotte Convention Center, our decorator, and several other items that facilitate the show each year.

We understand that everyone is experiencing hardships at this time, and we are no different. All 3-Day Advance Tickets, Artist Alley Tables and Exhibitor Booth Reservations for the 2020 Heroes Convention will automatically transfer to our June 18-20, 2021 show. Requests for refunds will be addressed on a case-by-case basis as soon as possible, but will need to be postponed until the country, and our store, have reopened and finances have stabilized. We will do our best to issue refunds if necessary, but it will take us time to do so. We appreciate your understanding and patience.

We look forward to hosting an incredible Heroes Convention in 2021 with a Guest List for the record books! We hope that you will join us next June 18-20! In the meantime, we ask that you stay safe, stay well, and stay home until it is safe for everyone!

We appreciate each and every one of you.

Sincerely,
The Staff of Heroes Aren’t Hard to Find and the Heroes Convention

COSTUMES:
While we will NOT hold a Costume Contest at the 2020 Charlotte Mini-Con, we do not discourage attendees who wish to attend in costume from doing so! Everyone is welcome!

Please be advised that there will be a weapons check at the door and that all costume props must be either wooden or plastic to comply with our weapons policy.
All replica weapons will need to be inspected and approved as a non-functional prop at the door before they will be allowed inside the Charlotte Mini-Con. No metal weaponry of any kind will be allowed. We appreciate your understanding.

(Note: We ask that you please be respectful to the artists and exhibitors at Charlotte Mini-Con when taking photos. Please ask permission before you take a photo, and do not block anyone’s set-up when taking photos. If you would like to stage a group photo, please do so outside of the convention floor. We want everyone to have a great time at our show and appreciate your help!)
